Artist Statement + Resume
I like to incorporate my traditional art background into modern functionality, which is how my career in web design began. A goal-orientated individual with a driven work ethic, I have been fortunate with many different work experiences that have allowed me to become a well-rounded, creative individual who uses my surroundings and knowledge to benefit my artistic ability.
In theory, web pages are just like painted canvases, where a scene with an abundance of information is depicted to demonstrate a story or an idea. While both paintings and web pages both require attention in the areas of contrast, lighting, color, textures, and spacial relationships, I use my artistic training in focal points, perspective, mediums, and axes to benefit webpages via layout, typography, balance, and flow.
When it comes to creating traditional art, I work primarily with oil paints on hand-stretched canvases, and watercolor. While studying abroad in Venice in 2008, I discovered my love of printmaking; I am familiar with Woodcut, Linocut, Lithography, Drypoint, Mezzotint, and Monotype; my favorite techniques are Etching, Intaglio, Aquatint, and the delicate method of Engraving.
I went brain-dead for a few minutes. That's how fantastic Katie's art is.
